Daisaku Ikeda is the president of the Soka Gakkai International (SGI), a Buddhist association of more than 12 million members in 190 countries and territories, and founder of several educational, cultural and research institutions.

He is a prolific writer, poet and peace activist, recognized as one of the leading interpreters of Buddhism, bringing its timeless wisdom to bear on the many contemporary issues confronting humanity.

Liaoning Normal University, China, Hosts Forum on Humanism
April 1, 2007

On April 1, 2007, the Daisaku Ikeda Peace and Culture Research Institute at Liaoning Normal University (LNNU), Dalian, China, hosted a forum attended by scholars and students who engage in research and study regarding the ideals and activities of SGI President Daisaku Ikeda. Among the participants were: LNNU President Qu Qingbiao, who serves as director of the Ikeda Institute; Zhang Guangxin, head of LNNU public information; and Wang Yulang, director of the research center on the history of northeastern China at Dalian University.

The participants presented the results of their research on the ideals and thoughts of Daisaku Ikeda related to topics such as the modernization of Buddhism, corporate culture, the purpose of education, global vision and oriental civilizations. This was followed by active discussions on the Toynbee-Ikeda dialogue, the acceptance of Mr. Ikeda's philosophy in China and its relevance to humanism. Vice Director Cui Xuesen also reported on collaborative efforts with Soka University's Institute for the Study of Soka (value-creating) Education that took place in January 2007.
