Since 2004, SGI-Canada members in Vancouver participate annually in the "Keep Vancouver Spectacular" community clean-up campaign. The SGI-Canada Youth Earth Charter Committee is also based in Vancouver. In 2008 they hosted a "Summer of Sustainability" campaign, encouraging people to reduce their carbon footprint. The Earth Charter Committee has also helped create a multi-faith sustainability resource guide. In 2005, the Committee was amongst the winners of the Mayor of Vancouver's Environmental Achievement Award. SGI-Canada members also regularly take part in tree planting activities in Alton, Ontario, in partnership with local conservation groups, as well as other environmental and social sustainability initiatives in communities across the country.
Since June 2007, SGI-USA has held regular lectures in its Culture of Peace Distinguished Speakers Series and opened culture of peace resource centers at five of its centers across the USA, culminating in the publication of the book Voices for a Culture of Peace in 2010. The series was initiated at the encouragement of Ambassador Anwarul K. Chowdhury, champion of the concept of a culture of peace at the UN, who gave the inaugural lecture. Often a dialogue with SGI-USA youth representatives precedes the lectures, which have featured a wide range of speakers, from Nobel Peace Prize Laureates to artists and activists.
